A mom, social worker, and public servant committed to
bettering lives and leading effectively

Dear Neighbor,

My name is Katie Anderson, and I am running for a second term on the North Kingstown Town Council. The people of North Kingstown depend on our Town Council to solve problems on issues including school funding, infrastructure improvements, clean drinking water, economic development, and historic and environmental preservation. Too often, that mission is lost to petty politics.

I have dedicated my career to helping individuals, families, and communities overcome barriers and achieve higher quality of life. I have brought that same approach to serving the people of North Kingstown. I am passionate about serving our community, and am proud my family calls North Kingstown home.

I have a 4-year-old daughter and infant son, and am myself the daughter of retirees living here in town. In 2020, at the height of the pandemic, I realized I could not sit on the sidelines and depend on others to solve our problems. I knew my experiences and perspectives as a mom and frontline healthcare worker differed greatly from those traditionally serving on the Town Council. I saw it was time for a change, and so I ran for office.

I am a graduate of American University (BA) and Boston College (MSW). I am a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) currently practicing in community mental health. Previously, I have worked in public policy, healthcare management, and non-profit fundraising and development.

My work has taught me how to truly listen to, respect, and learn from other people's lived experiences, strengths, challenges, and needs. I understand the tenets of leadership, fiscal responsibility and budgeting, and attention to detail from my professional work, and I have brought these qualities to the Town Council.

If re-elected, I will continue efforts to restore civility, effectiveness, and efficiency. My priority issue areas include: supporting a strong school system, building community, protecting our environment, ensuring a sustainable future, driving revenue, and supporting our workforce and small businesses.

Our current Town Council has made remarkable progress, and I am proud to have played a role. We restored funding to our schools; passed a sweeping and state-of-the-art ordinance to protect our water supply; secured almost $675,000 in grant funding for innovative climate-related projects; passed a new tax exemption for homeowners; renovated and reopened three playgrounds and our historic Town Hall; and passed a budget that respected current economic challenges while maintaining the school and municipal services this town deserves. We adopted a bold vision for the future and began planning for projects using federal stimulus money that may include a new recreation center and public safety complex.

However, there is still work to do. In these divisive, uncertain times, we need bold leaders who can offer a better path forward: one that celebrates and appreciates diversity and difference; respects challenges facing groups like working families and seniors; and one that aims to unite and engage rather than divide and exclude.

Earning the right to serve this remarkable community has been a humbling and incredible privilege. I thank you for your support, and I invite you to contact me at any time.
